To affirm Luciano Leães is a world class R&B musician of current times is no exaggeration. In the words of Bob Lohr, Chuck Berry’s pianist for more than 10 years, “Luciano is one of the most amazing rhythm and blues New Orleans style musicians. He plays so well and with so much soul that if you happened to be a pianist, after hearing him perform, you would do one of two things: abandon it or practice more. He is definitely one of the best guys who plays New Orleans classic style.
Leães has shared the stage with important international Blues artists such as Carey Bell, Magic Slim, Earl Thomas, Hubert Summlin', Larry McCray, Wee Willie Walker, and John Primer among others. As sideman, in 2018 Leães toured the USA and Europe with singer Annika Chambers, winner of the best singer of soul and blues at the 2019 Blues Music Awards.
At the end of 2018, he released a live version of “Song for JB” from his first album 'The Power of Love'. The single won awards in Brasil and got airplay from New Orleans radio station WWOZ. In 2019 Luciano played at the Jazz Fest and Tipitina's in New Orleans with the MO' FESS band and shows his solo work at the traditional Maple Leaf in New Orleans. In the second semester of 2019 he is planning the release of a new album and singles mixing world music and his south american blues and R&B.
"Extraordinary artists do not appear overnight. I believe people will remember Luciano Leães for a long time. Musically, the Brazilian musician is at the crossroads where past, present and future meet"
- RUSS RAGSDALE, music
producer in Nashville, TN.
"What I remember about Luciano Leães is that he is not an atypical presence. Many have watched him play here [in New Orleans]." When Luciano invokes my father's legacy, he is one of the best pianists to appear in this role"
– PAT BYRD, daughter of
Professor Longhair.
